Piccadilly Circus

Piccadilly Circus is located in the heart of London, near Hyde Park. It exists in London since 1812 and is considered to be earned one of the most bustling and diverse areas of the British capital. 

The name "Piccadilly" appeared in the 17th century. Residents of the city dubbed as the road that led to the house of Robert Baker. He sold collars - piccadillies. This name and preserved for this street - Piccadilly Street. But Piccadilly Circus appeared only later - in 1819. She joined the street from Piccadilly Regent Street. 

Piccadilly Circus fountain adorns Shaftesberi which crowns figure of Eros with a bow. This angel figurine was created in honor of Count Shaftesberi who defended the rights of children. It symbolized the god of unconditional love - Anteros. However, residents saw it as a different context and renamed differently. The square also built a large building, decorated with neon signs. They illuminate the street since 1980 and are a kind of a symbol of modern London.
