Whitby Abbey

Whitby Abbey

Whitby Abbey is located in the north of England , in the county Yokshir. Abbey originally bore the name "Lighthouse Cove" and today it is called "Uizbi" because of the white color of the walls of the abbey. The abbey was founded in the year 657. Its founder was the King of Northumbria, who ordered a monastery in gratitude for the victory in the battle with the king of Persia. Abbey is famous for the fact that here in 664 at a synod convened by King Oswiu, was resolved a dispute between the followers of the Roman and Celtic Christianity, including the dispute concerning the calculation of Easter. King took the side of Roman Christianity, and the bishops had to obey. This story came to the present day thanks to product Bede "Ecclesiastical History of the people of England."
