Cardiff Castle

Cardiff Castle

Cardiff Castle is one of the main attractions of Wales. It is located in the county of Glamorganshire. About two thousand years ago on the site of the castle there was a fleet built by the Romans. Later it was rebuilt in a more powerful reinforcement.

In the 11th century the castle was owned by the Norman lord in the 12th century - the son of King Henry I, Robert of Gloucester. In the second half of the 13th century castle strengthened and expanded. Impregnable wall of the castle with battlements and towers has provided a good defense. During its long history the castle changed a lot of owners, and in 1766 transferred to the ownership of John Stuart, Earl of Bute kind. He was one of the richest men in the world, so the palace turned into one of the finest buildings of its time. The interiors of the castle was decorated with frescoes, gilding, marble, stained glass. Each room was decorated in different styles - from Arabic to Mediterranean.

Today, the palace is a popular tourist destination and is protected by the state as a monument of international importance.
