Westminster Abbey

Westminster Abbey, or as it is called the Collegiate Church of St Peter at Westminster, is an ancient temple built in 1275 ˗ 1745. Abbey built in the Gothic architectural style and is the traditional place of coronation and burial of British monarchs. In 1953, the Abbey was crowned Elizabeth II, and in 1957 he bade farewell to Princess Diana. Here, as in 2011 held a wedding of Prince William and Kate Meddlton.

Abbey can be called a huge necropolis, since there are more than 3,300 graves! Besides monarchs, in the Abbey were buried famous poets, scientists, writers and politicians. Here are some of them: Charles Darwin, Rudyard Kipling, Isaac Newton, William Shakespeare, Winston Churchill.

Collegiate Church of St. Peter is stunning with its size and luxury interiors. Inside the building seems much taller and wider than you could imagine yourself looking at it from outside. All creates the impression of lightness: yellowish marble, line lancet arches, flowing light through huge windows with bright colored stained glass. Dazzles with its beauty placer precious stained glass paints. Also, here you will see the famous throne for coronations, which for 700 years monarchs came into his royal position. Throne is between Henry VII and chapels of St. Edward.

Abbey is one of the objects protected by UNESCO. Westminster Abbey is located in the center of London.
